Heylo Transition FAQ
SOMA Families migrated to a new membership and events platform, Heylo, on July 1, 2025. As of that date, all member services, event details, and RSVP’ing will be done on Heylo. The SOMA Families website, Facebook and Instagram pages, and newsletter will still remain active.

heylo transition Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Why did SOMA Families change platforms? Heylo is a group platform that allows SOMA Families to manage our events, communications, membership records, and member payments all in one place. Gone are the days of having to manage your MeetUp account and pay dues on two separate systems! Heylo also offers features that will allow members to interact more easily with each other and with the SOMA Families leadership team (Board). And, as members, you will have more control over your own member account and user profile.
Do I have to move to Heylo? Yes, if you want to stay a member of SOMA Families, you will need to join Heylo. All event information, RSVP'ing, and our membership dues platform will be part of Heylo. SOMA Families will no longer use MeetUp.
How do I join SOMA Families on Heylo? Simply go to the SOMA Families Heylo page and request to join.
All new members will enjoy a short free trial period to allow them to see events and what the group has to offer before committing to annual dues. If dues are not paid, you will be automatically removed from the group after the trial period ends.
Existing SOMA Families members (members for whom it has been less than 1 calendar year since dues were last paid) will be matched to your annual dues payment date, and have your “free trial” extended until your next payment date. As your payment date nears, Heylo will prompt you to sign up for annual dues. If dues are not paid, you will be automatically removed from the group after your “trial period” ends.
Do I have to download a new app? Heylo has a great app, but if you don’t want to download it, you can use Heylo from your computer or phone browser. SOMA Families has our own dedicated space on Heylo, so you will only get communications from our group.
What happened to my previously paid SOMA Families membership? If you had an active SOMA Families membership as of June 9, 2025, your auto-renewing subscription on the SOMA Families website was canceled, and you were notified via email of cancelation.
If you do not join Heylo: We still have a record of your membership, and you are still a SOMA Families member through the date your dues cover (1 year since your last payment), and are welcome to join events! But, you will not be able to RSVP directly to events and may miss out on events and other information if you don’t join Heylo. If you do not join Heylo by the time your membership expires, you will no longer be an active member. You can re-join at any time!
If you do join Heylo: We still have a record of your membership renewal date, and if you join us on Heylo, your dues renewal date will remain the same. You will have full access to membership benefits for the remainder of your paid dues period, and when your next payment date nears, you will be prompted to complete your payment in the Heylo platform. On Heylo, you will have more control over your own subscription options and payment information.
What if I want to leave SOMA Families? If SOMA Families no longer feels like a good fit for your family, you are able to unsubscribe at any time. During the transition, the easiest way to leave is to simply not join Heylo. If you are already on Heylo, you can remove yourself from the group and discontinue your membership. You may also wish to unsubscribe yourself from the SOMA Families newsletter (via the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any newsletter).
What information did you share with Heylo? What happens to my personal information? In order to facilitate our transition, we shared email address, last payment date, child(ren)’s birth month/year (e.g. 12/2020), and your town. We did not share any payment method information or home addresses, and we do not collect or share children’s names. If you chose not join transition with us to Heylo, your profile and all information will be deleted by Heylo after 30 days. See Heylo’s privacy policy here.
What if I have more questions or need help? No problem! You can message a real person directly via Support Chat in Heylo, or email at support@heylo.com. If you feel more comfortable going to a SOMA Families board member, you can message our VP of Membership, Chloe Gurin-Sands at membership@somafamilies.org.
